Fun for Kids & Adults: The Geology of Hopewell - Fossils, Rivers & Rocks!

Hopewell Township has a remarkable geological history. Spend the afternoon with Geologist Pierre Lacombe, as he covers A) splitting of North America from Africa during the early stages of the Atlantic Ocean; B) the environment of deposition for the red sandstones and mudstones of the area; C) the cyclicity of the sediment rocks; D) the intrusion of magma; E) the erosion that created the Sourland Mountains; and F) the impact of the glaciers. If time permits, we will cover changes in flow of the Delaware River over the last few million years and the impact of the bedrock on water quality in streams and supply wells. 

The afternoon will be split into two segments and during the latter, kids are invited to participate in a youth-oriented, hands-on activity in one of the church classrooms.

The regular presentation portion is available either in person or by zoom, the kids part is only in person. The program is free but please register so we know how many people to expect.
