Warm Thoughts for February

The groundhog saw his shadow predicting six more weeks of winter but that’s ok because February also brings Valentine’s Day to warm everyone’s hearts if not their toes!

The Valentines featured here are part of the collection at The Hopewell Museum with some

dating back to the 19th century. As you may know, the Museum is closed during renovations but opened for research, so Bonita Craft Grant, archivist for both the Museum and the Society, did a little digging to find these merry treats for us!

Poking around, it looks like the local history world is pretty quiet this month but you can get your fix with one of the best speakers around, Ian Burrow, who will talk on February 11 about how the British people viewed the Revolutionary War while it was going on.  Read more here

For some more recent history, the State Library in Trenton is debuting an exhibit about the Bicentennial. For some of us who remember that exciting year, it was only yesterday! "Drawing exclusively from the State Museum’s own collections, Spirit of ‘76: The Bicentennial showcases an assortment of rarely-seen artifacts and artworks produced fifty years ago as part of the excitement for our Bicentennial."

Also, in the HV Historical Society’s exhibit space at Mercer County Library – Hopewell Branch, come see our Board Member Kim Robinson’s exhibit on local frozen flora, fauna, and bridges!

We have been meeting with all our local partners planning for this big year and we hope to have some news for you next month.

Until then, stay more and keep learning about Hopewell History!
